Con: On the one hand, leaving social media would mean relinquishing access to the huge potential audience that comes with using these sites.

Pro: On the other hand, quitting social media may offer numerous benefits – from saving time to reducing stress and even increasing productivity.

Before making the decision to quit social media, entrepreneurs should take the time to carefully weigh the pros and cons of taking this step. From a business perspective, it’s important to ask yourself whether or not you can afford to give up the power of these platforms.

If you’ve invested a significant amount of time and effort into cultivating a strong online presence on social media, abandoning your accounts could result in lost opportunities or worse, even losing money. And as an entrepreneur, you are doing the business for money. Even if you support charities, for that, you need money, so yes, you are in the business for money.

You must also consider how much time and money you’re currently spending managing your accounts; if it’s consuming too much of your energy, and you see no success (+money) from it, then it might be better to bow out gracefully or delegate the task to a professional.

Because instead of quitting, it’s always an option to hire a social media manager to manage your contents.

If after considering all of this, you still think that quitting social media is the right move for you and your business, then you should have an exit strategy in place.

First off, you’ll want to back up all your data so that you have access to everything down the road if needed. How many time we have seen that somebody get fed up with social media, deletes all their account to realize after a few weeks that some of the contacts were save there and now it’s all lost.

Secondly, decide how (if at all) you plan on communicating with customers via email or some other channel such as a blog or newsletter subscription list. It’s possible, (for example if you do crafts and your main income is from craft shows) to be successful without social media, but somehow you have to communicate towards your clients where they can find your products.

Lastly, create an alternative way of sharing content online that works best for you – it might be YouTube videos or LinkedIn posts instead of tweets or Facebook updates. But even these platforms are considered now as social media: now that you can post simple images on YouTube, and your followers van engage with you in comments, there is really no reason why not be on social media, because practically everything is social media.

Whatever route you take when it comes to leaving social media as an entrepreneur, or recruiting a social media agency to manage your accounts, always keep in mind that while quitting may feel daunting at first, it may actually help lead to better productivity in the long run. Good luck!
